Since 2011, the Foundation has collaborated with 814 like-minded entities and has granted aid worth 6,300,000 euros through numerous projects. Additionally, over the years, more than 68,000 children and adolescents at risk of exclusion have benefited from the various programs.
Fundació PortAventura channels and drives the social action of PortAventura World, a central axis of the company’s global Corporate Responsibility strategy, focused on the constant search for economic, social, and environmental balance.
“The arrival of PortAventura Dreams allows us to continue generating real value for society. We are convinced that the project will have a very positive impact on the lives of many families,” commented Ramón Marsal, President of Fundación PortAventura.
The value of leisure in recovery therapy
The project, conceived as a playful and interactive space, aims to generate a positive effect on recovery from a psychological point of view while allowing for new moments of family bonding.
For this reason, and with the aim of scientifically confirming the benefits of leisure on health, Vall d’Hebron Hospital will conduct a pioneering psychological study that will try to measure the impact of a recreational-therapeutic experience outside the hospital environment on the emotional well-being of sick children at the final stage of their treatment and that of their families. The study will start with the arrival of the first families at the village.
“There is little research on the impact of brief interventions that combine recreational and therapeutic aspects on the well-being of children with serious illnesses and their families. This pilot study will allow us to measure these aspects, expand scientific knowledge, and define new strategies aimed at improving the quality of life of patients with chronic illnesses and that of their families,” explained Dr. Josep Antoni Ramos Quiroga, Head of the Psychiatry Service at Vall d’Hebron University Hospital.
